Sariska Tiger Reserve is a big, beautiful wildlife park in Alwar, Rajasthan, India. It’s about 881 square kilometers and has all sorts of landscapes like forests, grasslands, and hills. It used to be a hunting ground, but in 1958 it became a wildlife sanctuary and in 1978, it became a tiger reserve. It’s part of a big wildlife corridor and has lots of different plants and animals.

How to reach

Air: Jaipur International Airport is the nearest, located approximately 123 kilometers away.

Rail: Alwar Junction Railway Station, 37 kilometers from Sariska, provides connectivity to major cities.

Road: From Delhi, take NH48 towards Jaipur. Reach Shahpura and switch to SH25 for Sariska Tiger Reserve. Alternatively, from Neemrana, connect to SH25. Always check the latest directions, use GPS, and consider local advice for the most accurate route information. Drive safely, considering traffic and weather conditions.

Best time to visit

Summer Season (April to June): High chances of wildlife sightings as animals frequent water holes.

Monsoon Season (July to September): Some zones may be closed, while the buffer zone remains open.

Winter Season (October to March): Pleasant weather and ideal for animal spotting.

History

the history of Sariska goes way back to the time of the Mahabharata when the Pandavas stayed there during their exile. It was ruled by the Bargujar Kings and was a hunting ground for the royal family of Alwar. After India became independent, Sariska became a Wildlife Reserve in 1955, then a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1958, and finally the Sariska Tiger Reserve in 1979.

Flora

Sariska has a mix of dry deciduous and thorn forests. The Dhok tree is the most common there, but there are also Boswellia Serrata, Lannea coromandelica, Kathaa (Acacia catechu), and Bamboo. Other important plants like Arjun, Gugal, Kadaya, Amla, and Bahera make the place diverse and beautiful.

Fauna

There are lots of different animals in Sariska, like Bengal tigers, sloth bears, Indian leopards, jungle cats, caracals, striped hyenas, golden jackals, and different kinds of deer. There are also lots of birds like the grey francolin, white-throated kingfisher, Indian peafowl, and crested serpent eagle. In total, there are over 200 bird species and many reptiles.
