The Sajjangarh Biological Park, situated in Udaipur, Rajasthan, emerged as a significant endeavor under the Rajasthan Forestry and Biodiversity Project initiated in 2004-05, with financial support from the Japan International Co-operation Agency. Covering an expansive area of 36 hectares and funded with 21.70 crore rupees, this park materialized due to the inadequacy of the existing Gulab Bagh Zoo in complying with prescribed norms by the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi. Civil construction was overseen by the Rajasthan State Road Development and Construction Corporation Ltd., while the Public Works Department was responsible for the service road. Forestry-related tasks were undertaken by the Forest Department. The park was inaugurated on 12 April 2015 by Prakash Javdekar, Minister of Environment and Forests, aiming to promote wildlife tourism and education about local flora and fauna. Notably, it introduced India's First Augmented Reality Application, along with a mascot, in collaboration with Panther Studio Pvt Ltd, enhancing the visitor experience.

Facing deficiencies in adhering to prescribed norms by the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi, the project aimed to rectify the inadequacies of the existing Gulab Bagh zoo. Sajjangarh Biological Park, sprawled over 36 hectares in Udaipur, Rajasthan, is nestled in the foothills of the Monsoon Palace (Sajjangarh Palace), approximately 4 km from the city center and 6 km from the city railway station. The park is strategically positioned to showcase a diverse array of wildlife amidst the picturesque landscapes of the region. Notably, it is supported by an artificial lake, Jiyan Lake, also known as Tiger Lake or Bari Lake, constructed in 1664 by Maharana Raj Singh of the Mewar dynasty. This lake, spanning 1.25 square miles, serves as a vital resource, with a storage capacity of about 400 million cubic feet, augmenting the sanctuary's ecological integrity.

Visitor Information

The Sajjangarh Biological Park operates from Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, except for Tuesdays when it remains closed. Additionally, the park's winter and summer season timings vary, with entry fees applicable for Indian and foreign tourists.
