About Jodhpur

Rao Jodha founded the ancient city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India, in 1459. The houses there are painted blue, earning it the nickname "Blue City." The skyline is dominated by Mehrangarh Fort, a palace from the fifteenth century that is now a museum. As a part of the Marwar region, Jodhpur is a fascinating destination because of its forts, palaces, temples, and lively culture.

History

Rao Jodha, the Rathore clan's chief, founded Jodhpur in 1459, and it quickly rose to prominence as the capital of the Marwar area. Building on the site of the former Rathore capital, Mehrangarh Fort, commenced in 1459. The silk and spice trade was made easier by Jodhpur's success as a major trading center. Its blue-painted homes, which have earned it the nickname "Blue City," are symbolic of both historical and cultural value. Adjacent to Marwar historically, Jodhpur became a part of the Indian Union in 1947. Attracting tourists from all over the world with its forts, palaces, temples, and bustling markets, the city today is a vibrant blend of historical richness and modernity.

Culture In Jodhpur, ladies wear stylish "Ghagras" and knee-length Kurtis, and men's clothes are accentuated by turbans that are intricately tied. The people who live there, called Jodhanas, speak Rajasthani, Marwari, and Hindi. Notable for its food, Jodhpur is home to confectioneries such as "Jodhpur Sweets" all over India. The nomadic tribes of the Thar Desert have inspired the creation of dishes like Mawa Kachori, Rabdi Ghewar, and Mirchi Bada, which exemplify the city's culinary identity.

Climate Because of its high evapotranspiration, Jodhpur experiences a hot arid climate (Köppen BWh), almost a hot semi-arid climate (Köppen BSh). 362 mm of rain on average falls, mostly in June and September. Extreme temperatures—above 40 °C in April, May, and June—are experienced. The highest temperature ever recorded in 2016 was 48.8 °C (119.8 °F). Jodhpur is still arid despite sporadic fluctuations; a riverfront project approved for the Jojari River, a tributary of the Luni River, will improve water resources.
