Deur Kothar, also known as Deorkothar, is an archaeological site of significant importance located in Madhya Pradesh, Central India. The site is situated in the Rewa district.

The stupas at Deur Kothar are believed to be about two thousand years old, dating back to Ashoka’s reign. The site is marked by four stupa mounds built out of brick. In the surrounding area, there are 63 rock shelters with ancient rock paintings. Some rocks even have inscriptions in the Brahmi language.

The site was discovered in 1982 by P.K. Mishra of the Archaeological Survey of India. The site is marked by four stupa mounds built out of brick, of which two stupas were subjected to archaeological excavations. There are remnants of 30 stupas made of stones or bricks.

The six-line Brahmi inscription on the Deorkothar pillar is considered to be the earliest evidence of the historic Buddha.
